Quick question: Does anyone else think the Medifast Diet is delicious? Hoping for any response. Second question of mine... I am getting my shipment of food a week from today. So I will be starting end of the month, so April sounds like a good month to get some friends to do this with. I have over 100 to lose, so, how bout it? Anymore out there in their 50s with over 100 to lose? Dont mean to exclude anyone, but we ladies in this age range have a few different things to cope with. It would be nice to compare notes and encourage each other.

I am very determined that I will do this to the best of my ability.

I have to do this, my health, my life, and my happiness all depend on it. I admit, I am not strong enough to fix myself meals and stick to a diet that way. If I can stay out of the kitchen most of the time and do Medifast meals, I think it will be so much easier. Getting older and heavy is not a nice way to live. I have always been heavy, but, now it is catching up with me.

I am not that old, dang it. So, here is one fat chick that is committed to do this thing, how bout you?..

Hi, I'm "only" 46 but we had very similar starting weights and I just wanted to give you a little encouragement as you get started. I just reached goal after losing 146 pounds on Medifast since last June and this really can be done; don't worry about your age or any physical limitations due to your weight, stick to the 5-1 every single day, feel free to ask questions of people on the board or by private message, and the weight will come off..

Good luck!..

Hi Pinkyswear and welcome to MF. This plan does work. I've been OP (on plan) since January 2011. I'm 52 and was a professional dieter. Notice my use of 'was"..

I know all about losing and gaining... and gaining. Since Medifast it has been just about losing. I'm learning so much about myself and my unhealthy relationship with food..

Check out the Fantastic 50's Board. There are some great positive threads that will help keep you motivated and encouraged. We are all in this together!.

Oh, I'm considering dropping my goal weight to 155... that would be 100 lbs lost!..

Pinkyswear I know what you mean about being over 50 bringing special challenges. I don't seem to lose as fast as I see younger people (or as fast as I used to when I was younger)! The good news is that I have been averaging about 10 pounds per month and hope to reach my goal by the end of this year. I have found getting to the gym and walking on the treadmill has been a help. I started just managing 15 to 20 minutes and now am up to 50 minutes, and faster than I started! I have also recently started learning the weight machines, to firm things up. I also have significantly less pain in my joints, now that I've lost 41 pounds! I still have 100 to go, but I am feeling the difference already...

I'm ready to make the journey with you. I'm 52 and started on Monday (can't wait to weigh this Monday). I have about 125 pounds to lose. I've been on the plan for 6 days so far and I really like it. Days 2 and 3 were physically uncomfortable (weak and had a whopper headache) but now I feel great. It is a RELIEF not to be thinking about food, except for my one lean and green meal (which I am very grateful for everyday!).

It's different than eating for all the other reasons I usually eat (to treat myself, to entertain myself, etc. etc. ) Good luck and keep us posted!.

I am not good with names, or even being able to keep up with all the post, but, I will do the best I can. I am happy to have someone to share this with that has the same problems and goals as I do. I say, we keep our little group going, and post whenever you want, good, bad, or, the ugly, lol.

I have got to find the place that says how much you eat, and what for the lean and green, so I can be ready Monday. I will prob weigh on Mondays, since that is the day I am starting. Hope yall have a good weekend...

As long as it takes I will lose 100lbs total!.

Pinkyswear measure yourself today after you weigh in. It is good to have starting group of measurements on hand so you know how many inches you have lost as well! It always makes me feel so much better to know the inches lost if I happen to have a bad weigh in..

I hope to see many posts here or maybe we can start a end of summer goal thread?.

Patti, that is awesome. Stay with it girl. I got my food this morning. I have had all my meals and lean and green. I am full. I have had a headache much of the day.

I weighed this morning and weighed more than I thought, so, will have to adjust starting weight. I weigh 298......YIKES I am determined to get thru this..

I am glad to see others here who have the same goals, ages, weight, etc. It will be fun to see each other transform..

I really just wanted a place to come to for mutual support and for those that are going thru the same as me, to give help to each other, and a place to vent when needed. I know there are a lot of threads that you can go to for challenges, etc, and that is cool if that is what you want. I do have a goal, and that is to stick to this and the weight will come off at a rate that is right for me. If it is okay with yall, lets just keep it that way, ok? Of course anyone that has been thru this and lost their weight already are welcome to lend support too..

I guess my weigh in day will be on Monday morns, since that when I started. Lets at least ck in on our weigh in day so we can keep up with each other. I wish everyone luck with this, and lets get it done, however long it takes, and try our best to stay 100% true to the program..

....I have been on Medifast since Feb 02, 2011..... and I have been OP the entire time...how I did this is still a mystery I just take it meal by meal day by day...I could never stick to a diet I yo yo'd more than I would care to remember......but being in our 50's this is the time!!!! Sure I think about food like every second..... but I invested too much money to go off program. I weigh in on Wednesdays today I lost 2.5 it looks like I'm slowing down. My weigh day is Monday. I can hardly wait. I am really tired of running to the potty constantly. I hope this lets up some after a few days..

I had green beans, salad, and roast for my lean and green. It is really a lot of food to eat at one meal. I do believe I can stick with this. Well, I am going to put my headachy self to bed..

I've been so hungry, TOM started yesterday, so today I'm dividing my L&G into Lunch and Dinner and so far it's helping. Since we can have 2 cups of egg beaters I'm using that for my L and made an omelet with 1 cup and a serving of red bell pepper. I'll have the rest at dinner, probably another omelet and a salad..

I picked up some steak and salmon from Costco today so I can eat some tasty protein..

I was able to wear my too tight 24 jeans today so I've definitely lost some weight and inches..

Hope everyone is hanging in there...

Man, I am so glad that I dont deal with TOM anymore. I had a chicken breast and green beans and okra for supper. I am struggling with so much to eat. I think I am going to have to divide up the meal. It is just too much at one time. So, can we have an omelet for brkfast, and the rest of the lean at supper? One cup of egg beaters, and half the amount of lean at supper? I can tell the greens are going to get boring, but, oh well.

I am excited to see the end results on Mon. morning! Hope yall are doing well...

Pinkyswear - Yes, you can divide up your L&G. It worked really well for me today so I will continue to divide the L&G to get over this hunger. The hardest part is cooking for the rest of the family. I work at home and DH works at home most days. Today I had to cook him eggs and bacon. That's when I decided to eat half my L&G at lunch.

I will be thrilled when my TOM is finished for good, except for two pregnancies it's been almost 41 years of monthly *fun*...

Pinkyswear and all of the others, I am so glad you started this thread...I am not usually good at keeping up with blogging, etc., but I need this group! I am 58 and I have at least 100 lbs to lose. I may be a little different than most of the rest of you because, having been steadily gaining weight over the years, I had a lap-band operation 2 years ago after having tried WW, Optifast, and all of the others like Atkins, etc. I only lost 20 lbs after having the lap-band surgery because my stress level got so high due to the economy and losing jobs, etc., etc., etc. The stress got so bad that I had a mini-stroke last July 4th. The doctors said that the weight did not have anything to do with the mini-stroke, but I am sure that losing the weight can't hurt and I will have one less thing to stress about. I decided that I had to get the weight off once and for all and have control over at least one tiny part of my lifemy weightso I could feel better about myself.

I find that Medifast is just flexible enough and the food tastes good enough to stick with it 'til the end this time. I have some goals that help keep me motivated like I have 2 pairs of boots that I love but I can't get my calves into anymore...and my leather jacket doesn't fit anymore either...what I am going to do with them if I don't lose the weight? Give them away? I couldn't bear it. Drinking the water is the hardest part for me, so I drink diet Arizona green tea instead. Thanks to all of you for being there...let's keep the support going...please???..

Marielle, glad you found us. I am happy you found something that works for you. I have tried everything except for surgery. Always too scared to go there. At my age, I feel this is a last resort. If I dont stay with this and do it, then, I may as well accept that I will be fat til I die.

So, with that in mind, I am committed, cause I dont want to stay fat and die sooner than I should. I love having this group, it is so much easier to know that others are in the same boat, and that they are doing it with you, and can encourage each other..

Hope to hear from all of you, on a daily basis. Have a good weekend!..

Hey pinkyswear, donna, and marielle (anyone else I've missed)! Today is a little easier than yesterday. At least I haven't felt like gnawing my arm off..

Marielle - I seriously thought about the lap band surgery but anesthesia doesn't always work on me. The last surgery I woke up as the nurses were shifting me from the operating table to the gurney. Hope you've recovered from your stroke..

Pinkyswear - Having a support group does help, it's good to have someone to cheer you on..

Donna - Hope you're having a good day..

I'm a daily weigher but will only record officially on Mondays. Today I was down 9.5 lbs. And I know that every bit was peed away..

Last night I slept the best since the last time I went low carb..

Hi pinky and all ya'll out there - down 2.3 lbs with this week's weight in- yay!!! About the food, the Hot Cocoa is great, I agree, as well as the Chai Tea, but I do not like the Cappuccino. My favorite and current staple go-to is the Beef with Vegetable Stew. I think the Chili is also good, but I have to add additional water and make sure it cooks long enough for the beans to be softer, but the flavor cures the craving for Mexican-ish food. For breakfast, I make sorta like a bread pudding with the chocolate chip pancakes. I shake the packet with double the water (a half cup) and then put it in a medifast mug in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time until it puffs up and is fully cooked. I sprinkle it with Splenda and eat it with a spoon.

I find that I get through the day while I am working with eating the pancakes for breakfast and 2 other soups or shakes during the day. Then, I eat my lean and green as soon as get home from work. I keep the shakes and the bars for 'dessert'. This routine is working for me so far. You will find a routine of your favorites that will work for you, too.

I have read that no one likes the 'soft serves'. I do not like the chocolate mint at all and I can tolerate the mango only if I make it like a shake. Those flavors came in my free weeks and I am just using them once in a while for a meal to get rid of them. I want to try the chili cheese puffs next time. Did ya'll know that you get order meals one at a time to try them first? May we all stay OP for the coming week.....

I just dont like the flavor. It has the flavor of the oatmeal, which is the one thing I can not get down, literally. I gag, lol. Tomorrow is weigh in day for me, so, heres to a good loss!..

Pinky-good luck on your first weigh-in day tomorrow! A few hints that I learned while following the medically-supervised Optifast planweigh first thing in the morning AFTER you have gone to the bathroom. You would be amazed at how it will make a difference!! I know that we are only fooling ourselves when we do that because it is just water weight, but it does wonders for your motivation! Also, it is only a source of frustration to weight during the week instead of once a week. Your weight fluctuates during the day and from day to day and you don't need any sort of discouragement while on this journey...

The biggest issue is that I'm still hungry, not as bad as Day 2 and 3 but the hunger wakes me up at night. I'm eating all the meals plus a snack and I weigh my L&G. I haven't been around much last week fell off the wagon! But back on and doing OK. I've been MFing since Thanksgiving, but I have to admit I have not had much luck with the foods. I didn't like anything I got in my 2 week samples, and when I started you could not order just one of anything! Now that it's an option I may try a few things. I mainly stick to the shakes and some of the bars. I work 4 ten hour days, so I have my L&G for lunch, since by the time I get home (commute is an hour each way) it's almost time to get ready for bed and I don't want to eat a big meal then! I try to do my main cooking on the weekend, and then weigh and package up 4 lunches. I don't mind eating the same thing, but I do try to change up what I fix each week.

Those are my "desserts" !.

What kinds of exercise are people doing? I walk on the treadmill and have recently added some upper body weight machines. I really need to do something about the upper arm flapping stuff! I try to go three times a week...

I have also found that if I go without eating a couple hours past a meal time and I get really hungry, then even my L&G doesn't feel like enough. I will drink a bottle of water and wait an hour. If I am still pretty hungry I will have an extra shake. That has always been enough to settle me down. It's not a lot of extra calories, and it's not worth it to be miserable...

Today I ate my protein and 2 of my vegetables at lunch and it seems to have helped with the hunger. I'm also still having headaches, but it is allergy season. The scale has only moved 1 pound this week. On the positive side, I'm not really having any cravings. I guess this will take a lot of adjusting..

Have a great week-end!..

Finally, descending again.

OK, so for 2 years I steadily shed off weight until 169 pounds were gone and then I hit a wall. Now for a year I have been dancing around that number I achieved, adding a bit, then taking it off, living the "maintenance" lifestyle even though I was not yet where I wanted to be..

NOW I am back on track to shed the last of it, and TODAY I have moved the ticker down a pound, to my lowest adult weight in decades. I am getting used to the ketosis feeling again, I just tell myself that when I'm feeling light-headed it is ME eating ME UP!.

I talk to people all the time about weight issues, and listen to their excuses, and for the past year I did a lot of examining why I couldn't finish the race, get to goal. I just had a strong sense that I had done all I could, that my skin needed to shrink to fit, that I needed to stabilize before I could do more..

But now I am ready. The season has changed, I am ready for the change that being back OP represents, and I am back out on the trail on my marvelous mule and he is frisky and delighted that we left that big amount of weight back there on the ground, no longer loading it up onto him in the saddle..

For anyone in a similar position I want to give the encouragement that I stuck within 5 pounds of my lowest weight, and that was even with teasing myself with trigger foods, something I now recognize (with a nod to Lealonnie1) is TORTURE! Yes, as adult with free will we need to recognize the presence of things in our environments that trigger us to overindulgence. The anticipation of the addictive food is the real pleasure, then a tiny amount of time is pleasure in consumption, then quickly followed with post-consumption obsession about MORE of it. 'Tain't worth it!.

More than ever I feel qualified to tell people that slimming is one of the hardest things I have ever done, and it is brilliant that I have been a steady student of equine pursuits as I have done it. As my butt shrinks my abilities as a mule rider increase, and I have a direct positive feedback to encourage me onward. For some people that is the miles they can run in marathons, or swim. I do think now that it is vital to have a direct positive benchmark that is other than the numbers on the scale to look to for a sense of progress and accomplishment...

Morning, everyone! Not so great weigh-in this week only down 1/2 lb but I will keep with this. Two weeks is not enough time to see if it will work. I'm weighing my L&G, getting more than 64oz water, limiting my condiments, and keeping my carbs well under 100gms. Still hungry but I'm getting used to the feeling. Hope everyone is doing well and checks in!..

I have increased my exercise and my weight is bouncing around. I have started jogging/walking on the treadmill, instead of just walking. I went 3 miles Saturday and signed up for a 5k fun run which will occur in 4 weeks. I am excited about doing something like this having never participated in a race-even a Fun one where I can walk and run. I have told a couple friends at work, so I won't wuss out! Now I just have to fit one more training session per week!..

I've finished three weeks now and have lost 13.5 pounds. I'm happy with that. Sometimes my mind starts messing with me and saying things like, "Oh.. you probably could have lost that much and still been eating food!" I'm not listening to that voice for the moment, because I have too many past failures for that to be really true AND it is truly a relief to not have to be making food decisions and doing food prep all day. My big success this week was to go visit my daughter in college and stay almost completely OP. I made a few choices (for example: some celery and a small amount of hummus each way during the six hour drive to keep me awake and 3 bites of no sugar added ice cream to be social) that were not completely OP, but for me it was a victory to make controlled choices.

Orlafinyour message is inspiring. I'm not sure I'll make it all the way and see you as a role model of how to travel this path. Keep us posted!..

Not seeing any scale action, but that's OK. I'm sticking pretty close to OP and I know things will happen! People are starting to comment about my weight loss, and that does help me stay on track. I'm tired and going to try and make an early night of it, because if tomorrow is anything like today was at work, I'm going to NEED my sleep tonight!..

Pinkyswear - Congratulations on 38 years. I'm working on 27 years..

I was really hoping to be losing weight faster since I have a lot to lose. 10 lbs the first week was very good but only 1/2 lb the second, this week I'm currently down 2 lbs. I did a little experimenting last week with recipes but this week I'm not and am sticking 100% to the plan. I'm trying to drink more than 64oz of water and now that I have my Capella drops it's a lot easier. BTW, the Capella drops to flavor water are great, no calories and taste very natural. I have Strawberry-Kiwi and Orange-Mango and they really make plain water taste great.

I'm going to concentrate on the positives, my weight is decreasing, my clothes fit better, my sleep is better, I've stopped snoring and no longer take Prilosec..

Hope everyone is having a great OP week!..

Hey, that is great jeri. Just stay with it. Some weeks are good, some not so good. First week or so, I drank all of my water, now, not as much. I cant go to the potty that much. It was ridiculous.

I am pretty much in routine now, not that hungry, so, right now I am good. Keep in touch. Have a good weekend!..

Weighed in this a.m and am down 4 lbs this week! My total so far is 14.5 lbs. Hopefully next week I'll hit 15 or more lbs and then I will have less than 100 lbs to lose..

I'm keeping it real simple, no serious doctoring of meals and my L&G is very simple, usually protein over a bed of lettuce with low fat dressing..

Hope everyone (or whoever is left) is doing well with MF!..

I've been staying on track and now have less than 100 pounds to lose!! I've been about the same weight most of the week, but when that happens, I will usually see a pound or two come off the scales at the end of the week. My challenge will be to eat healthy while I am in Las Vegas this weekend. My plan is to stay with the 5 & 1, avoid desserts, and eat as clean as possible, but I am also being realistic Vegas has some great food! I have alread looked into the fitness center at the hotel and plan to continue working out. The friend I'm meeting there has also been working out lately (C25K plan), so I'm hoping she will work out with me, or at least understand my desire to stay on track. She's not a "food friend" who sabotages my diets, so I think she will be supportive. I have not met my goal of getting to 237 before the trip, but I'm OK. I'm training for my 5k fun run May 1st, so I'm seeing changes in inches, not the scale...

Hello everyone...mind if I join you? I have a little over 100 pounds to lose...just turned 50 last month and I am in need of a group to help me through this! I am a "repeat offender" here at Medifast. I lost over 50 pounds before but then neglected myself physically while I went back to school to complete my doctorate. I've regained the 50 and then some. I feel miserable physically and I am very ready to get on the Medifast wagon again! I know it works and I also know you can't do it alone..

I'm Debbie...nice to meet everyone!..

Just wanted to add a few words of encouragement to you guys just starting out!.

IT CAN BE DONE!.

I was 52 when I started almost a year ago and had over 150 lbs to go. Like wapiti2, I had been a "professional dieter". With Medifast I don't even think of it as a diet. It's just the way I eat and will have to eat for the rest of my life to keep the weight off. If anyone asks for details about what I'm doing to lose weight I tell them about Medifast and that it has been a miracle in my life. This is the FIRST plan in 40 years of dieting that I have been able to stick with for more than a few months.

The weight loss part has been pretty easy. I know transition and maintenance will be tougher but there is so much good support and advise here from people who are actually doing it, that I am confident I can do it too..

Here is my advise for those just starting out:.

Make sure you understand the plan rules and guidelines. They send you information with your package but there is lots available under the "Help Center" link at the top of the page as well..

Read a lot of other people's experience on the blogs and boards but take everything with a grain of salt. Most people mean well but not all advise is equal. If something doesn't sound quite right or deviates from your understanding of the plan rules, check with Nutritional Support. Also, check out the person's page to see their history. I would take the advise of someone who has lost 80 lbs and kept it off for 2 years over someone who has lost 20 lbs and has a bunch to go any day..

Follow the plan as written and you can't fail. Lots of us get a little complacent and start to think, "I'll just tweak it here or there" then end up either not losing or falling off completely. The smart people at Medifast have done all the research and scientific calculations for you - take advantage of their knowlege and experience and JUST FOLLOW THE PLAN..

Anyway, that's my 2-cents worth. Good luck - a month from now you'll be amazed at how much you've accomplished!..

Sharon - That's amazing that you've lost so much weight in a year. Congratulations!.

I really like MF, especially the structure. All of the other diets I've been on allowed me too many choices. I did the best on Atkins before Medifast but it still wasn't enough structure. I added carbs back in too quickly after induction. I'm really surprised that I can still lose weight eating so many carbs on MF, but there is a lot of scientific study behind it proving that if you stick with the program it will work...

I am 57 and need to lose 169 pounds so I am giving this my last best shot. I started on Sunday and so far have really enjoyed the program. As an earlier poster mentioned, I am better off if I just stay out of the kitchen and this plan works great for that. I love all the suggestions for L&G meals, since I am not the most inventive person, these suggestions really help. I am looking forward to moving toward my new normal and sharing the journey with all of you..

Saving for a better future!.

Gayle..

Wow, Sharon, that is awesome! I am doing okay, 14 lbs down so far in 3 weeks. I dont think at this point that I could eat this stuff for the rest of my life. I do expect to eat regular food again, but to eat healthy, not the way I use to eat. I have been a lot more active, and that has made me feel so much better. Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter. Oh, and Gayle, hang in there, it does work!..

Happy Easter Everyone!!.

Enjoy your family and friends and the feeling of control when you do not overeat on Sunday. Our happiness and pride in ourselves are all worth way more than any old chocolate BUNNY-so buy some pretty flowers for yourself as a gift and enjoy a healthy lean and green and staying OP..

For some reason my ticker is stuck-thank goodness I am NOT.

I was at 303 last Monday and am looking for the 200's land this Monday...
