Question I have... Does the Nutrisystem Nutrisystem diet Program really work? Thanks for any comment. Second question.. Hi everyone! I've been on the Nutrisystem program for over a year now... and have lost over 20lbs. Nutrisystem has worked for me and I continue to order the food...but for about four months now... |

Yup, but... you might want to make sure and wait for another commenter to confirm my answer as I am unsure of myself. Better yet, why don't you contact the Nutrisystem guys because they can give you an answer better...

I've been stuck around 200 for several weeks. In my case it's just 200-300 late night calories that stop my loss. This is also the weight I held when I was in the Air Force so it's around a set point. Since I'm very close to goal, I view it as learning to maintain - I WILL get down to my goal - but trying to lose the last 10 makes maintenance automatic..
I will offer a few tips from Dr. Al Sears: We need to get EXTRA protein - our body judges our environment by that criteria. If we're getting enough+ of protein then the body knows the "hunting" is good. We need to make sure we're avoiding High Glycemic Carbs - and we have to get enough of the right kind of fat (Omega 3 not Omega 6). The fat is what makes us feel satisfied. Our bodies are not calorimeters - that's why calorie deficit calculations just don't seem to work. Nutrisystem works very very well when we exercise up to 30 minutes per day and follow the plan completely. Exercise more and you have to adjust the calories higher - exercise 30 min or less and you have to be careful not to exceed that plan by even a small amount. Substitute too many no Nutrisystem entrees and you may not get enough protein ore Omega 3 fats.. The easiest way to start dropping, without having to make adjustments, is to walk 30 min per day and use the online or offline diary to be 100% on plan. Too many substituions and you may not get the balance that makes it all work... |

My first thought after reading the original post was, what is your body.
Fat % and has it been dropping?. I'm no expert but if your working out that hard and staying 100% on plan. Maybe your dropping BF%... |

Hey tyzy (MAHALO COUSIN.
),. When first reading your post I was thinking I would love to be stuck at 175... BUT THAN, I remembered that I'm stuck too. I was actually stuck at about 223 for about a month and a half and all of the sudden I went down to 214 and now for the past two weeks I'm hovering at about 215-216. I too work out with weights and seeing major changes in that respect. I am not sure what exactly got me stuck at 223 but I think that it might have been that I was exercising too intensely and not getting enough calories. I'm upto 2100 cals now for about three weeks so it's too early to really tell. However, I would stress that Tom is probably right on with his suggestion of adding protein as a form of caloric increase. I take an added protein shake and throw in added lean cold cuts into my salads. I also add a few extra fruit servings to get me through my routines. The other thing is that many people who are whitnesing this dramatic loss on me are commenting how I don't need to lose as much as I think I do. I think I need to lose another 30 at least. So, they could be right and that alone could be the reason why the scale has slowed dramatically for me.. Bottom line is that you have to do what you think is right for you. I can tell you that for me doing the exercises has become as important to my progress as my diet. There was a time looking back that I did take the scale very seriously and it affected me. I no longer look at the scale and instead focus on BF% and how I look. That to me is a part of changing ones lifestyle. I figure that the weight and fat will come off when my body feels it's time to do so. Good luck and do post your results as it helps us all. Untill than I'm waving that big hang loose with both hands.... Ben. OH HOW I DO MISS HAWAII... "HE MAU KE ALOHA". Looking at your ticker I don't see that you ever got stuck... well ok yes you did get stuck at your goal.. |

I'm still is a decision mode about whether I want to move the goal post down to 165. Stuck at 175 or there abouts feels good, but I was making such good progress, I thought I could go lower. By the way, I wrestled in the 145 lb weight class in high school. If you are at 215 and need to lose 30 to make your high school weight, you must have wrestled in the heavyweight class. Wasn't that 180 and over?..

For my height (5'8") 'normal' weight is supposed to be no more than 164. When I started NY last September I set a goal of 180. I've been maintaining (eating store bought food) well below that for 6 months now, stuck at between 170 and 173 for the last couple of months. I'm not doing Nutrisystem anymore, just trying to be good with regular food. If I make 164 that will be great, if I stay at 170-173 I can deal with that. If your goal is alot lower you may want to contact the Nutrisystem counselors for some specific advice...

That's cool that you used to wrestle... Actually my dad did and wanted me to do it as I was OK in gym class but never wrestled on a team. Boxed a little actually but nothing serious. I just remember looking back at my prom pictures a few weeks ago and thinking that I was way to little back than and I was around 175 at the prom. It was right after my senior year in High school and first year in college when I started to lift weights but stopped for quite a while after that. Until now.
How much? who knows but enough that people notice. I'm just going to stay on Nutrisystem plan until I like what I see and I feel what I like. Until than I'm going to keep pressing on. All I know is that I still need to lose more weight right now, that I'm certain of... |

First off, I have to say this board is very responsive and supportive... very awesome!.
@better-40: You're probably right... when I first started on the Nutrisystem plan, I followed it religiously. As I continue on the plan...i do find myself not strictly sticking to it. If and when I do stray from the plan, I try and keep it healthy...and in small portions. You may be right though...straying off the plan may be the cause of my rut. I most likely have to tighten up my meals. Probably more like 15.. Not to brag...hehe...but our weather here at the moment is a "chilly" 75 degrees. Now it's a Hawaii Christmas!. @FitTom: Thanks for the dietary tips! Question though... the only time I supplement my diet with more protein than I normally do is when I workout. I take a normal serving of Whey Protein....and some days I eat some tofu with my salads. Should I be consuming my protein supplement everyday... including the days I don't workout...which is mostly on the weekends.. @mtywarrior: Honestly, i'm not sure what my body % is. The last time I checked was when I had a personal trainer back about 10 years ago. But yes, I haven't been 100% on the plan...but I also don't eat junk food either. Visually, I can tell i'm losing fat (errr, lost fat) .... and as I workout continuously...i can see more muscle definition. I did consider muscle weight when weighing myself. @B_E_N: Howzit brah!!!. You gave me lots to think about. I probably will need to reevaluate my protein intake from what you guys are telling me. I usually workout about 30 to 45 minutes with weights and isometric routines... and probably don't take in enough protein as I should. I'm just not sure how much I should be taking... i'll probably have to look more into this.. Why did you leave Hawaii? Why would you?. Nahhhh!. @CTZNY: I haven't decided yet to go off of NS... but seeing as I haven't reached my ultimate goal of 160'ish... I should be on Nutrisystem for a while more. I'm 5'6"...and seen some MMA guys at my height weighing in at 160lbs...and still having great muscle definition. This is pretty much my goal... just looking and feeling great at my short stature.. @B_E_N & better-40: I wrestled too in highschool! I can't believe I used to be at the 125 class! Oh how much i've gained! I wish I could "suck" weight as I used to.. Well...you guys gave me a lot to try out. I'll keep you guys updated with my failures and successes as I give your suggestions a try.. Thanks everyone!!! Keep those tips coming if you've got more. Really appreciate all the support... |

Here is a recommendation from BellaVista Boy that I followed. I found my scale on ebay for $65 including shipping. Look around. Ebay, Amazon, Craigs List, and a few other places. This measures BF% Skeletal Muscle%, BMI, Weight (of course), and a couple of other things. Well worth the money just for the BF% numbers.
Just a suggestion.. 2. I strongly recommend getting a good quality scale with a body composition computer monitor. I have the Omron Model HBF-500. You can buy them in stores for about $125 but if you go to Amazon.com like I did, then you can get it for $57 with no tax and free shipping. It calculates your Body Mass Index (BMI) your Fat percentage, your muscle mass percentage and it even tells you your Visceral fat, (the fat around your organs that makes it hard to breath and makes your heart work harder). Keeping track of these numbers and seeing the improvement you get, really is a tremendous motivator. Some people weigh every day, others weigh once a week, some weigh only once in a while, while others weight every day and record the average for the week. Personally I weigh every day first thing in the morning, and record the week's lowest weight. THAT lowest weight then becomes the weight I need to beat next week... |
