Got a question, hope someone can answer... Has anyone tried the Medifast Diet and liked it? Hoping for any answer. Another question... Hello gang!. |
Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the right answer. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I got an good answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably know..

FF means Full Fast or all Medifast products with no Lean and Green..
I feel that at this time I have a bad relationship with food and want the break from it. Then once I feel more in control put the Lean and Green into the plan.. Hope this helps. Sorry about the acronym.. |
I love the bars, the pancakes, the pretzels and the puffs, the chocolate pudding, the Maryland Crab soup, the chili with added tomatoes and the beef stew. But I'm guessing there are so many varieties of palates out there. You gotta know what you like and dislike. Good luck!..

Are you working with a doctor to do the Medifast Complete plan (that's where it is 6 Medifast meals, no L&G - I think that is what you are referring to)? You definitely need to as there can be some supplements you may need as well as regular monitoring for heart and other health items. You will be on a VLCD (very low calorie diet) versus just a LCD like 5&1 is..
The products are all nutritionally equivalent so, "technically" there isn't a meal that will help you lose faster than others. Some people prefer the shakes that are lower in calories and carbs, but again - difference is negligible. I do some shakes but mostly other items like bars, puffs, oatmeal, etc.. Please be sure you are working with a doctor and being monitored closely... |

Kurz,.
Thanks for your reply.. Yes, I am working with my doctor on this. I wanted to know about some people that have done the Complete Plan and what their experience was.. My doctor offered both options but I know that I need some type of re-programming for a little while.. Thank you for your input... |
Yay! So glad you are working with your doctor.
You'll do great, and you'll figure out quickly which foods you love and hate... |
I think if you follow the plan the way it is set 5&1 you will lose. How fast do you want to lose? I don't think FF as you call it is good, just sounds like at some point you will binge looking for food 5&1 will help you avoid that with the real meal. It's also about using what you learn in the weightloss phase to transition & maintenance. How do you expect to transition? Good luck on whichever plan you decide...
My plan is to lose 5 pounds per week. When I'm ready emotionally I'll transition to the 5&1 and continue with the weight loss..
My problem is that at this time I'm so tired of being fat that I don't want anything to do with real food. I'm looking at Medifast like medication to my problem.. Right now I cook for my family and I don't want none of it. Therefore, the L&G wouldn't be much help. On the flip side I'm a snacker because of my situation and Medifast fits the bill.. I know that once I lose some weight I'll be able to re- train my brain to eat properly but at this time I"m just not ready... |

When I first did Medifast it was full fast only via my doctor. I lost a lot of weight but there was no transition plan at the time so I eventually gained it all back and then some. I didn't want to go back to it because I didn't feel well on it. I lost a lot of hair, my skin was dry and I had horrible constipation issues. Instead after I gained it all. I did WW and lost a good bit of it but came here to lose the majority of it.
I found that moving from 5&1 to real food has been much easier this time and I also have a better relationship with food because 5&1 made me deal with that one meal every day. I was forced to shop for good foods and prepare a good meal. Doing the all Medifast didn't do that. I still got that disassociation from food I wanted but with some enforced good food habits with the 1 L&G. If you like we can private message if you want more info on my all Medifast vs.. |
That is exactly how I used MF! I didn't care if the food tasted good or not. It was my medicine. It was good for me and I would take it!..
My only suggestion is to be very careful of not getting bored with JUST Medifast foods. I lost a lot of weight on the 5&1, taught myself some very good behavior lessons along the way. We didnt put it on overnight, dont expect to lose it that way. Food will need to come back into your life at one point, learn to deal with it, not avoid it..
Best of luck to you whatever you choose to do... |

Keishla.
I have not done the Complete plan. Years back, my sister and father both did it. They had shakes only. My sister lost a ton of weight but also lost a lot of hair, her menstrual cylce, and had other physical problems.. Each of them lost over 100 pounds. Unfortunately, they each also gained it back and more.. I am NOT trying to discourage you, but since you asked about anyone's experience on it, I figured I would share my family's.. You know what you need to do for yourself best, and I wish you all the best! That's great you are working with a doctor... |
If it's not something your doc talks about then I would suggest that if you decided to do the full fast only do it for no more than 12 weeks and then slowly transition to the 5 & 1 program to lose the rest if you aren't at goal then. Then transition following the T & M plan for 5 & 1. Definately make sure you have some kind of transition plan ready because going from the full fast right back into eating normally again would not be a good idea...

I know that some people go this route when first starting out because they need the 100% distance from real food for a while. I've read on another Medifast site that the Complete Plan (full fast) is done using 5 - 7 Medifast meals per day depending on you...do you need more? Are you awake long hours? Do you have alot to lose? Best wishes to you!! HOw are you doing??.
Remember MF'ers....people lose hair on ALL rapid weight loss programs....not just Medifast. This is not uncommon. Plus...the people who gain the weight back don't always commit to the whole plan (which includes Transition and Maintenance). Sad, people are so strict about the losing part and then think the T & M aren't as important... |
Good point...keep in mind the 5 & 1 IS part of the Complete Plan and it is considered part of TRANSITION...

I LOVE the bars, taste like real chocolate and that works great with me. The chicken noodle soup and beef stew is great! Dutch Chocolate shakes, Swiss Mocha shakes are good, peach oatmeal, brownies, puffs (both flavors), cinn. pretzels, I hear the vanilla pudding isn't to good, which makes me nervous because it came with my free week. Ummm, broccoli soup is good made as a chip, if you need recipes for anything like muffins out of the oatmeal and chips out of the broccoli soup just go to the recipe thread. You can make it all taste good to you with some variations. Some cinnamon or vanilla extract here or there works wonders.
Ok I am rambling now, hope this helps... |
See I can't do it like that, the food has to taste good, because I enjoy food regardless of the "diet" if I don't enjoy it I wont do well. So some of us have a hard time just eating it because we have to. We need to like it, some of the consistency issues is a big part. Like some can't handle that the oatmeal is kinda like wall paper paste, or the shakes are a tad chalky. I like the food, but I have to enjoy it in order to be successful! You are lucky to be able to make that distinction!..

Hi Keishla - I can relate to why you would want to do all Medifast products, or FF as I now know it's called. You can end your cravings and physical addiction to food by doing the 5&1. What goes on in our heads and our relationship with food is so personal. Since you are working with a physician I say do what you know you need to do to get yourself on the right path to better health..
Also, the food is not nasty! I found it delicious and satisfying! You'll find the ones you love and the ones you don't care for. Medifast food is no different than any other food in that regard.. Best wishes to you!. Michelle.. |
