First of all Nutrisystem diet similar to weight watchers but free and online? Looking forward for any comment. Another quick question... Well, I am excited actually, but maybe a 6 on a 10 scale of excitement. I finally broke the "I need to lose 100+ pounds" segment of my diet. 14 pounds down after 1 month... 99.8 pounds to go! I can see that my weight loss is slowing down to about 1-1.2 pounds a week. |

Good question... I dunno what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I find an useful answer. You should email the people at Nutrisystem as they probably could give you an answer..

Hey curry,.
I can totally understand where your coming from with the minimal loss. Even though this is the mans room and boys aren't supposed to console, you should know you're not alone. I too am losing at roughly what you are or less. I too lost 18 lbs the first month (honeymoon. ). Thats over now. Just wondering??? are you working out intensely? using weights or any kind of resistance training? If so you should call Nutrisystem and speak to a counselor as they will guide you and possibly increase your caloric intake. The more you do in way of intense exercise the more you need to consume otherwise you could be sending your body into conservation/starvation mode. In other words... the rate of calories lost is far greater than the rate of calorie consumption to maintain everyday body function. When I increased my calories I saw better results. Hope that helped... |
Thanks Ben.. yeah I actually just started that workout DVD given by Nutrisystem so that should be good. I'm going to check out those work bands for resistance training as well...

I would suggest running your numbers on an online basal metabolic rate calculator to get a better idea of how many calories your body may burn based on your current numbers and activity level...
Heres a link to one I found and am shocked that for me I should be eating 2930 cals.
Mine came out to be 2504.5.
I can see that this number represents the amount of calories I burn on very minimal energy expenditure (ie. laying in bed all day as they said). This number doesn't necessarily mean I need to eat that many calories, correct? I figure if I eat 1700 cals a day, my body would be burning off more calories than I take in. Granted, like you said, I do not want to go into "starvation mode".. I'll have to contact a counselor to see what's the best amount to optimize the diet... |
I'm no expert but all I can tell you is that I believe that I went into starvation deficit mode... I was basically doing too much. This is why the counselors increased my caloric intake. some of the slowdown however, I have to attribute to muscle gain as well. take a look at the above link as I found another calculator where it actually allows you to change your activity level...
Curry, just follow the plan and you will not go into starvation mode. If you are adding a large amount of activitiy, speak to a counselor to see what, if any, calories should be added. And no, you should not eat that amount of calories. It is just helpful to know how your body is actually functioning. Remember, your body is already carrying energy in the form of stored fat...
I agree with Michael. Just remember that Nutrisystem actually recommends 90 minutes of exercise with the plan per week. Anything more could and I say "could" put you into starvation deficit. However, it's important to remember that to lose you must be on caloric deficit. What that deficit amount is, is dependent on too many factors and varies from individual to individual. The easiest thing is to stick to plan..
Any changes you decide off plan should be done very very slowly. I highly recommend to start logging the exact activities and intensities that you engage in. Especially a weight lifting chart. I did this for a month before I was told to try increasing..... |
Here you go:.
Muscle does not weigh more than fat.. Fat is bulky and lumpy so if you carry an extra five pounds of fat, you'll be lumpier than with five pounds more muscle. A five pound pile of fat will take up more space (volume) than a five pound pile of muscle; but five pounds is still five pounds, so for those of you that don't "get" English, you cannot say one thing weighing a certain weight weighs more than another thing at that same weight. It's a common joke to play on an 8-year old. The correct way to state the muscle weighs more than fat scenario is, "Muscle is heavier by volume than fat.".. |

Did someone let my high school health teacher in?.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!. Or is it my science teacher?. Oh please anyone else but her............................ Umnn but seriously, I think most of us know this concept already. thanks.. |
Thanks. But just to be clear; muscle and fat aside. Five pounds of bricks still weighs more than five pounds of feathers, right?.
... |
Just trying to help....carry on and oh yeah...you can all still bite me!..
Hey lady (in the best Jerry Lewis voice I can muster).
We all get the concept. That is why the original. Encouragement was to MEASURE YOURSELF as. Well as weigh. Sometimes when you work out..... Never mind you wouldn't understand.. Crap how do they get in here. where did the MOD put. That P scanner at?.. |
It's ok Darin...I understand...we get in here the same way you get into the Gutter sometimes.....
Brilliant takeover attempt, cant wait to see how this goes...
Rose has been around here longer than you have and is NOT a troll...
Guys,.
I am a newbie as well (1.5 months) but it sounds like she was just trying to help. Lighten up a little... |
OK thanks for bringing it to my attention that she has more to lose than I do.
However, my comment was based on what was posted by her to others and it seems to me that others feel the same way.. Anyhow, my comment seemed to have stooped the negative off topic discussion. So shall we get back to the topic at hand?.. |
Appears that an English teacher is needed far more than a health teacher:.
1.. Lose. , not. Loose. .. Lose. Is what we're all trying to do.. Loose. Is a slang desription of your wife. Err, maybe we're all trying to do her too. Bad example.. 2.. Stopped. , not. Stooped. .. Stopped. Is what you should have done before your. Stooped. To the level of calling Rose a troll.. Now, re: the "starvation mode" discussion.... I suspect that very few of us are truly in starvation mode. I think that a lot of us fat guys have lived making excuses for years. Why should that stop now that we're buying a program which actually works? Curryjunky & BEN, you're 100% on plan with all add ins and you're timing your meals to keep your metabolism running? You won't need to call a counselor to hear the truth, if you're 100%, you'll lose weight. The OP was that Curryjunky was taking the day off to go golfing to celebrate having less than 100# to lose. Congrats and enjoy the day. Portion control isn't easy but it sure is effective. Don't use "starvation mode" as an excuse to help yourself to another plate a fries and then tell your buddies that Nutrisystem just didn't work for you... |
And just as a matter of record, Rosie IS one of the chicks that get it. She has a lifetime hall pass to the Men's Room, Along with all the -lishish gals from the gutter, but also Jill, Pam, Graylady and Helen. Just sayin'..
Btw, I vote to ban Sarah Palin from ever posting here. She gives me the heebee jeebees.. PS. Letsgo... +100.. |
I think Curryjunky was hinting to the fact that he was already following plan and not seeing great results. I can't speak for anyone else but I can tell you that what I was doing was more than likely starvation mode. I didn't know any better. At one point I was working out 6 days a week 1 1/2 - 2 hrs/day. I was really pumped about getting rid of so much weight my first month. Thinking that I can do the same or better I started weight lifting and cardio at high intensities, partly because I really enjoy it.
I'm not sure how much exercise you do but I have noticed that many people on Nutrisystem do little in way of exercise intensity and duration. Those same people seem to lose weight faster but have little result in muscular improvement and thats OK if thats what they want. I have come to realize through talking to the experts at Nutrisystem that this program is designed for folks who basically don't like to move their a$$. So if thats the case than you better cut your meal plan down to the recommended 1500. However, others who like to "run marathons" will get a modified meal plan on NS. However, still no fries sorry, LOL... |
We kissed and made up...and I have another Friend now, LOL.
I got a bit defensive over our men's room I guess... |
Ease back on the reins there Lancelot, no need to charge in and save this Damsel in distress. B_E_N and the boys were just defending our turf in much the same way you do there Big Fella, nothing wrong with that. He didn't know she had an honorary freebe to bypass the P-scanner, and neither did I, although after checking out some of her post and visiting her page I see why , very cool lady..
Hitting a wall after the "honeymoon" is pretty normal I think, whether you are working out or not. The body makes adjustments and becomes more efficient with the new decreased calorie intake.. It has been my experience thus far that even though the pounds are slowing the inches have not and that I attribute to the exercise I do both cardio and resistance training.. I am still confused about the 5lbs of feather weighing as much as 5lbs of brick though, aren't bricks heavier than feathers?. Mojo.. |
I know, but being the post ***** that I am, I wanted to add my 2 cents for my Rosie. She has come to my defense during many a drama when I was younger...
Letsgomountaineers.
LOOSE. ?. ?. ?. Are you blind? or just stupid?.. |
Given your earlier posts I must be "stoo-ped". Let me guess, Nutrisystem is to blame, your brain was in starvation mode? Better get yourself some off plan calories to blame...
Oh... stupid and blind. What happened to LOOSE not there huh? yah-must-a-bin drunk...
Any post ***** that has put out 2,532 times has the right to issue P-scanner bypass tickets as they see fit, in my book anyway.
Mojo.. |
Drop the barbell and re-read the thread. The "loose" comment was not directed specifically at you, the "stooped" comment was. Several of the posts have been edited. Many of my posts have been "fixed for me". I generally laugh it off, it's part of the game in this room. Don't take things so personal and enjoy the weight loss and weight maintenance journey..
BTW, Keep the aggressive PM's coming! You made me laugh out loud this morning... |
