My first question is What is a huge Nutrisystem diet, (food, diet pills) etc...? Many thanks for any comment. Second question.. I can't stand Fat Free salad dressings, or at least haven't found one I like. I don't care much for light salad dressing either. So right now I just use red wine vinegar with a little salt and pepper.. |
Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the answer. I'll do some research and get back to you if I find an good answer. You should email the people at Nutrisystem as they probably could assist you..

Man, I tried that walden farms stuff and hated it. to me it tasted like chemicals. I have been using lite raspberry vinaigrette and it hasn't had a bad effect on loss. I don't know if it is everywhere, but my local publix carries the walden farms brand if you want to try it. good luck...
Yeah I looked over their website and they have a lot of things to choose from. There are a lot of stores around my doctors office that carry walden's, but none near me. I'll either pick some up next doctor visit or order some online next month...
Well, I didn't get fat being picky about what I used to shove in my pie hole. The taste is fine to me and I eat it everyday. Of course you always have the 'Full Flavor Regular Dressing' fork dip method made famous by Mobay45. I can personally attest that method worked well for me when I ordered a salad at a restaurant that didn't have FF dressing...
I like Ken's lite dressings (note, not no fat but low fat). My favorite is the Caesar. I also like the Northern Italian. JT..

Glad you asked! I was in the same boat. I'm a serious salad guy (okay, really a goofy salad guy) and was looking forward to salads being a big part of my Nutrisystem experience. Unfortunately, my 75 cal 16g fat/ Tbls dressing does not fit ANYwhere in this program..
I tried virtually every low-fat dressing on the shelf. Of them all, Walden Farms was the most tolerable. Very impressive, 'specially with all 0 values. Well worth trying and easily available in the grocery store.. I forget who, but someone on the forum twisted my arm and insisted I try Galeo's miso-based dressings. Well, to make a long story short (too late!), we just placed our 3rd order in 6 weeks. Now that we know our favorites we're getting 12 bottles in (6 ceasar-me, 6 toasted sesame-her).. They are seriously good and I no longer feel like I'm compromising my salad enjoyment or my Nutrisystem program.. Http://www.galeoscafe.com/. Good luck!. Gordon.. |
Thanks for the tip Gordon. I just ordered some online. Interested on the Wasabi flavored one...
I'm interested in that one too. You'll let me know how you like it?..
I use Kraft Catalina Fat Free, Ken's Lite Accent Rasberry Walnut Viniaigrette (spray), and Newman's Own Basalmic Vinaigrette. I put all of my dressings in a small spray botttle. Spraying the dressing on gives me the coverage I like for my salads and I tend to use less that the serving..
Often I go without dressings and use oregano and spray on the juice from jalapeno slices jar. I have discover that spraying on the juices from pickles, jalapeno, etc gives me adequate flavor... |
I couldn't agree more. My salad dressing of choice for something creamy and outside the FF Italian mode.....
Ken's Fat Free Raspberry Pecan for me. I've got Walden's Blue Cheese, but I add a teaspoon of mayo to a couple of tablespoons of that, add some Garlic and Herb spice blend from Kroger and dip carrots and celery into it. That's my fat and veggie serving for dinner a lot...
I like Hidden Valley Ranch FF ranch the best. Kraft FF ranch is terrible...
I make a fresh salsa and typically use that on my salads..
I love mexican food and this usually gives me my fix.. 6 Roma tomatoes. 1/4 cup lemon or lime juice. 1 bunch of chopped Cilantro. 2 tsp garlic powder or 1 clove of fresh crushed. 2 tbsp Chili powder (optional). 1 Med Chopped onion. 3 Jalepenos.. |
Gordon, Thanks for the tip. I just ordered a mixed case (heavy on the Caesar) I will report back in a week or two once I have used the product...
I use all of the Paul Newman lite sprays balsamic and italian being my fav. Easy to find at the grocery also...
If anyone lives in So Cal they carry the full line of Walden Farms at Mother's Market..
I'd gotten them at Ralphs before, but they only carried a couple items and seem to have discontinued them (at least at my local one). Mothers had a huge selection when I went yesterday, not just the dressings, but the syrup, peanut butter and chocolate... |
I see they have them at Whole Foods according to their website...will need to take a drive over there and grab some to try !..
My grocery store had a brand called Maple Grove of Vermont. They had about 4 or 5 FFs to pick from. I'm gonna try their lime basil vinaigrette..
Edit after trying: Not too bad. Great flavors, but was just a tad sweet for my tastes.. |
You're welcome, John. Jumped in with both feet! Everyone's taste is different, but Galeos stuff does it for me. Looking forward to hearing how it works out for you..
Gordon. PS - just checked old threads, and credit for the Galeos recommendation goes to Karen "BeachBumInMT"... |
My thoughts exactly. But, taste does matter..
I cant believe nobody mentioned the FF Italian dressing from Kraft. It is good enough for everyday use IMHO. I may change things up with some Kraft FF Ranch, but I always come back to the Italian... |
Don't forget you can also use Nutrisystem entrees to dress up your salads. Some of mine were a little off-plan, but not terribly so..
For example, use the tacos! I'd use a third to a half a bag of salad, throw in mushrooms, crunch up the tortilla chips and layer them on, a sprinkle of 2% shredded cheddar, add the hot prepared taco filling on top of that, squeeze a lime wedge over the whole thing, add a dollop of FF sour cream and some salsa.. If you don't have tacos on hand, you could also use one of the burgers - add the water and sprinkle on a little cumin and red pepper flakes so it'll flavor up a little while it rehydrates, dice or tear it up and mix with some salsa and crush up a handful of baked Tostitos (or if you have the time, toast up a couple of corn tortillas in the over)... |
Considering the Nutrisystem proscription against using more than two tablespoons of dressing on a salad, I wanted something that would "spread out" fairly evenly without a lot of tossing and effort..
Right off the shelf at the local grocery store, a 1g Carbs 0g Fat 0g Sugar (per serving) Italian dressing in a big bottle, tastes great, spreads all over the lettuce etc. easy, and is cheap.. No need for exotic brands, friends. Just look at the labels on the dressing at your local grocery store and you'll find something you like the taste of and can live with, for pennies.. Which is, by the way, good training for post-NS... |
My favorite is Kraft.
Free Catalina. (2 Tbsp=50 calories) followed by Maple Grove Farms of Vermont's. Fat Free Honey Dijon. (lower sodium) 2 Tbsp=40 calories. I also use Newman's Own. Light Italien Dressing. For my dinner which does have fat but is lower in sodium (1 Tbsp=30 calories).. Jerry.. |
I'm with Damon, Walden Farms is where it's at. I like the Blue Cheese, the Bacon Ranch, and my current favorite is the Jersey Sweet Onion. I also like their Mayo spread. The Peanut Butter spread is edible, but that's about all. I got some PB2 and I like it much better than the WF stuff. One of my go-to lunches is a bag of shredded lettuce, a can of water packed tuna, all covered with the Jersey Sweet Onion dressing.
I also like the PB2 mixed in with yogurt. A tbs. mixed in adds only 26 calories... |
I like the Good Seasons Italian and Ceasar brand Dry Dressing mixes that come in the baggies. You can get a carafe with the meaure marking on it to make it easier to mix. Mix as directed on the packets just make sure you use water instead of oil. That stuff taste better than most regular bottled Italian or Ceasars, IMO...
I get dressing from Trader Joe's. They're big here in California. Big Chain. They carry FF Balsamic Vinaigrette (25cal per 2 tbsp) and FF Sesame Soy Ginger Vinaigrette. (35cal per 2 tbsp)..
I just tried a new dressing on my lunch salad today. Maple Grove Farms of Vermont's.
Fat Free Wasabi Dijon. Spicy with lots of flavor 2 Tbsp=35 calories.. I never used to eat salad and now I look forward to it. Maybe it's because it is the only food that I have control over. The salad dressing becomes very important!. Jerry.. |
I found that I like almost all fat free or lite Thousand Island or Rasperry Vinegrette dressings...
Just found out my first shipment of Salad dressing was damaged and UPS sent it back. Heck, I didn't even see it, the tracking number info said it was damaged and sent back. Not sure when I'll get the new one yet...
Bummer. I noticed that Galeaos are not the fastest shipping on-line place I've ever dealt with. Even though non of mine broke, I figure on allowing a week to get a delivery from them. Since we got 12 bottles last week, we're good for a while..
Gordon.. |
I found some great tasting fat free salad dressing. You would never know it was fat free. Kraft has delicious FF Catalina, FF Ranch, FF Italian..
You can add red wine vinegar, cider vinegar or Heinz gourmet salad vinegar (whichever matches the taste of your dressing) to your salad on top of these (or whisk the vinegar & dressing in a cup) if the serving size of dressing is not enough.. I also add some Grill Mates spices to my salad especially the Garlic & Onion flavor or Mesquite flavor... |
By the way, all of these salad dressings, vinegars, and spices are available at most grocery stores Giant Eagle, BiLo, Shop n Save, Market Basket, Weis, etc...
I'm only on day three and I am so SICK of salad. When I'm done with the bottle of dressing I have now I'm going to try the Walden Farms stuff. I didn't think you could even make no calorie dressing...
My favorite is one of the.
Whole Foods brands. .... "Organic Ginger Soy Vinaigrette Dressing.". It is not FF, but 2 TBSP is only 50 calories, and 3.5% total fat...3% sat. fat.. I put it in a spray bottle and spray the salad, so I use lots less than the 2 TBSP.. It's tangy, and the taste is great...if you like ginger!. Also, for a slightly different taste each time, I use some of the following:. Balsamic Vinegar (spray on), Lime Juice, Garlic/Dill Pickle Juice, Ground Cumen, Curry Powder, or Greek Oregano.. Btw...a friend taught me a trick that some of you might find interesting.... To same money on salad greens...... Romaine:. Buy a 3 pack (cheaper in the long run than packaged pre-washed salad mix).. Cut crosswise and then into small pieces, wash and spin dry.. Two cut up heads of Romaine will fit into a plastic box/container (mine is 9"Lx7"Wx4"D).. Top with a paper towel of the Romaine before closing the top...it will stay fresh in the. Refrigerator for a couple of days...if it lasts that long.. Dandelion Greens:. They are very cheap and plentiful now, so I do the same as with the Romaine.. Dandelion Greens are good for you and makes a good, tangy salad. I mix them with the. Romaine for an interesting salad.. Topped with some sliced mushrooms, chopped red onions, and a few halves of cherry tomatoes.....it's wonderful!.. |
Take 3 tsp of your red wine vinegar and pepper; add 1tsp extra virgin olive oil (dinner fat) and a drop of sandwich mustard as an emulsifier. Mix with a fork very fast until it turns into dressing..
I use balsamic vinegar. The older the better, it's more concentrated. Or make your own by simmering what you have till is half gone.. Get rid of the salt... |
On the same note, Wish Bone makes "salad spritzers" and as gay as that is, they only have 10 calories for ten sprays..
The ranch is meh, the red wine is good, the balsamic is good, I want to try the honey mustard.. My favorite is fat free Zia's which is an italian that's creamy (stays mixed) with some red wine in it. Also along that line is Lonzerotti's which is 45 calories for 2tbsp, basically same dressing with out the red, almost like a sweet-and sour flavor.. Also Strawberry Balsamic dressing is really good... |
I just could not find a FF dressing. I tried about a dozen and spent all that money I'm suppose to save on NS. Finally tried the fork tine method with "real" dressing and it works great. Total dressing used in a 4 cup salad was less than 1 table spoon for my dinner fat. Salads are now back on my plan...
For those of you that like Walden Farms dressings:.
Netrition.com sells WF dressing individual packets which are great for travel, keeping in your briefcase or throwing into your pocket to be able to take with you (out to dinner) as they don't need to be refrigerated.. - tip: when carrying 1 or 2 packets put them into a little baggie. Sometimes compression can cause the seam to split and you're cleaning up salad dressing. I put a couple boxes in my suitcase when we go on vacation, keep some in the center console of my car and a couple in a baggie in the side pocket of my purse.. Another FYI: Wishbone Salad Spritzers contain HFCS whereas the Newman's Spritzers do not... |
I did a search on salad dressings in the posts, and I'm glad I found this! Lot's of really good ideas. I bought two dressings to start with, but didn't realize they should be FF, and I got light. Yesterday I had Wishbone's light blue cheese, and I couldn't even finish my salad it was so awful! That one won't get used again. Today I had their sweet and spicy french, and it was really good. 50 cal/2 tbls, 2 g fat..
I've tried Walden Farms, and I HATED what I tried. Ended up throwing it away. Would love to hear more about the Galeos dressings from someone who can't stand WF. I just don't want to waste money on it if it tastes like those. I wish I liked them, but, alas. I don't... |
SciGeek I've found some FF dressing at my grocery store called Maple Grove Farms of Vermont. I've tried there lime basil viniagrette and there cranberry balsamic viniagrette. Both very good...
It was mentioned earlier in this thread and so when I was at the store yesterday I noticed dthe Ken brand on the shelf and decided to try a couple of them..
I bought. "Kens Lite Accents". ...they all are spray dressings. With 1 calorie per spray...zero fat...etc.. I got the. Honey Mustard Vinaigrette. And the. Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette. ....and they both are real tasty! They were $4.19 each at my store here in NYC.. For those of you who mentioned it before, thanks very much for suggesting Kens Brand... |
FYI - I just bought some dressings from that netrition.com site and they are actually cheaper than buying directly from waldenfarms.com!..
Dude, the Wishbone Fat-Free Italian is the sh*t. Also, I can't remember the brand, but the Boutifuls are relly good too..
I'll say this for Nutrisystem, they really got me into salad!.. |
I've now discovered Maple Grove FF dressing. The Raspberry Vinaigrette is ok, but the Balsamic Vinaigrette is fantastic. And it's sugar free as well as fat free. They're in the diabetic section of the supermarket...
