Quick question... What is the most effective Nutrisystem diet, for someone who is very overweight? Thanks in advance for any answer or 2. Another question on my mind: I first started Nutrisystem in January but only stuck to the program periodically, falling off the wagon for months at a time. I never cancelled the autoship though, so I have plenty of food lying around!. |

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer to that question. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I bump into an good answer. You should email the people at Nutrisystem as they probably can answer it..

Welcome back! The wagon stopped for you right where you got off, so climb back on and get it done! 'Looking forward to your progress reports!..

Don't be ashamed, be proud that you made the decision to get started again. I started and stopped a lot of times before I got sick and tired of being sick and tired. I still struggle,(made some bad decisions during the holiday) but am back on now. Climb aboard and take it one meal at a time. Welcome Back!!!..

Discobolus,.
Welcome back.. I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea about 5 years ago and they wanted to put me on that damned gizmo but I said no. I would often find my wife sleeping on the couch in the morning. My snoring was that loud.. After having failed time after time to lose weight on diets, I started NutriSystem. That was just about a year ago. I went from 280 to 190 and I haven't found my wife on the couch for nearly 6 months.. My advice is to make this your mission in life. It really is. Your life is on the line. I was severely obese at 280. What does that make you? I would say morbidly obese - or maybe very morbidly obese. Think of this as your last chance to survive because if you don't win the weight-war, the weight will kill you. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS!. Look, you'll hear it straight from us guys here. We're here to support you and help you stay on track. Make this a 2 year plan. Even when your weight loss stalls (it will and that's natural) stay with it. Don't give in. Fight the fight and dare to dream. Set your goal for 200lbs and don't deviate from the plan until you get there... |

The doctor's threat of having to use a CPAP or possible surgery was my big motivation to join NS. I am now CPAP free, off one blood pressure medication and talking with the doc about going off the other BP med in March. And, I feel SO MUCH BETTER in so many different ways..
Discobolus, I hope you are serious about sticking with Nutrisystem this time 100%. What are your choices? Get sicker or get better.. You do your part. And all of us here will help as much as we can. But the "you do your part" is the most important part. Good luck!.. |

The sad thing about this is that I of all people should know about the health consequences of obesity, as I'm actually a physician myself! I was even an exercise physiology major in college..
I was a track and field athlete in college (discus and shotput), and was around 18-20% body fat at 290 lbs. Then after my eligibility was up I decided to go to med school and essentially dropped all physical activity and my eating habits which were never great got gradually worse to the point that I rarely ate anything but drive-thru food. Medical school and now residency have really packed on the pounds as well.. I'm 31, single, and haven't been on a date in years, which I would really like to change.. My weight has also affected my job performance. I do fairly well with the more slow even pace of outpatient clinics, but inpatient and ICU rotations kill me. In fact whenever I was post-call (had been on for 24 hours and had 6 more to go before going home) I would frequently fall asleep in rounds and start snoring. One of my attendings actually pulled me over and suggested I get a sleep study (I already had one scheduled at that point). Then don't even get me started on breaking a profuse sweat and getted winded walking from one end of the hospital to the other.. I do need accountability with this, and expect to receive it from you guys... |
I'm doing the same...REjoining NS. Back in January, '07, I lost 40 pounds with NS, and got down to my goal weight of 160. Then once I stopped NS, I went right back to my old ways of overeating, and NO exersise. Needless to say, all of the weight came back, plus 20 pounds. So here I am, 2 years later starting over again. I'm going to wait until the beginning of January however, because the holidays are a BRUTAL time to try to lose weight. So I'm postponing for a few weeks...

We are willing to help but, first and foremost, be accountable to yourself. No one else will be with you when you drive past a drive-through or when your stomach is grumbling because you forgot to plan your meals..
I too suffer from severe sleep apnea. It is my only co-morbidity. Just recently, I have stopped using the Bi-PAP and feel great. I may eventually get a sleep study done just to confirm. But none of us needs to tell you what kind of damage you're doing to yourself with all the excess adipose. And I can also relate to your exasperation with being single or, at least, dateless. Improve your appearance and show that you care about yourself and all of that will change. Believe me.. Write down your reasons for wanting to get in shape and set defined goals. Try not to focus on weight but on body fat %, measurements, physical performance, well being and other indicators of improvement. When you're tempted, your adherence to your reasons for wanting to get lean will determine your adherence... |

Welcome back and good luck..
Hopefully you have more drive toward getting healthy now than you did the last time around. You need to convince yourself that this is a very long journey in which you have to be focused and committed to succeed. All of us here either use food or have used it in the past for either pleasure or reward. It is neither. It is the fuel that we need for our bodies to survive. Eating more than that or the things that are unhealthy is just self destructive. Get a number in your head. 1 year? 2 years? And stick with the program as closely as humanly possible and you'll be a lot closer to who you want to be before you know it... |
Why weight? You can gain or at lease I can gain 7 pounds in a weekend? Also when in January do you plan to start? The first is on a Thursday, you could wait till Sunday or Monday to start, I can give you a hundred excuses on how to delay..
Do yourself a favor and start today, NOW! Just a Suggestion.. And Larry to quote another programs saying; "Don't dig your grave with your fork"... |
Physician, heal thyself.
~. Luke 4:23. You can do this. When I first saw your avatar it reminded me of me. Your body style and shape are identical to my own when I first started. If you put even 1% of the resolve that it took to get through Med school into this, you will have miraculous results just like everyone else on here.. Follow the plan, eat all your food, fart a lot, drink ridiculous amounts of water and the fat will dissipate.. Daily participation on the boards is an integral part of the program... |
It wasn't really a fork that was my problem. Most of my bad eating was hand held. Burgers, fries, chips, ribs, fried chicken, cookies......
I use a fork a whole lot more now than I did when I was fat. Maybe I was just "utensilly challenged"!.. |
Ditto on what Damon said. Law school was a beyotch, Med school by all accounts is harder. This plan is easy. I find my self doing much better on plan when I am living a fast paced busy life. My mom is a nurse in OB, she has been on plan for a few months and has dropped 60. This plan is friendly for people in the medical field who don't have a lot of time to sit around and cook a gourmet meal.
You will notice an even bigger difference in the way patients and co-workers treat you. Oh yeah, and Michael's right, you will also score with the ladies if you put some effort into it... |
I believe Mikie has a scoring system of sorts. The more weight you lose, the higher numbered ladies become available. Something like starting at Zero and going to 6 1/2. Then as you lose more the ladies in the 8's and 9's start to appear..
And then there was also something about gifts, a watch I think. Or did he watch while she performed a gift. I don't know, something like that... |
All the previous posters are correct...Just man up and get it done!.
Clark.. |
On a similar note I'm sure hoping this 30 pounds equals 1 inch rule is correct..
It is..
But how much do you have to lose before you can even see it? That counts in towards the inches gained... |
I completely understand all of the VERY good reasons for not waiting...but here are my somewhat weak reasons FOR waiting until January. I have a holiday event this weekend AND next weekend where plenty of alchohol will be consumed. Then I have Christmas Eve at my brother's house with LOTS of food consumed...then Christmas Day at my parent's house, and my Mom is an AMAZING cook. So instead of struggling through each of these events, I just decided to wait until they're over. Just making excuses??? Maybe...
And all this time I thought I was the only one starting in the minuses. Also helps with the aim and whether or not you pee all over youself...
Well my pantry is full and I have 3 boxes sitting in my living room...
Whenever I think about eating crappy food I just repeat the line from shawshank redemption:.
"you either get busy living, or get busy dying". In all of our cases, this sentence is the honest to god truth. it usually centers me back into what my real goals are with this program...not to die before 50. good luck. we are all here for you. now get it done... |
Disco, the job ahead will be long, and sometimes hard (although I have found Nutrisystem to be the easiest diet I have ever been on) but well worth it. Once you establish a routine, you just cruise to lose. Good Luck and Full Speed Ahead. JT..

Congrats man!.
At my heaviest I was starting to wake myself up at night snoring. I haven't since last month. Apnea is bad. I don't know if this was a part of it or not, but I was also having acid reflux in my sleep which is awful - waking up with a mouth tasting like vomit and your throat burning. That may have been because I was eating a whole lot before bed. The apnea may have been causing me to gag and reflux... |
I also.
Used. To suffer from very bad acid reflux. A couple of times, I woke myself up choking and unable to breathe. I almost went Hendrix without the extensive and cool discography. That went away almost as I started eating on plan. The benefits of doing this are too many to list... |
After you lose the weight what do you plan to do for the holidays. Doing what you're doing could easily put you up another 15 pounds instead of losing 10 or more. Nothing tastes as good as thin feels. There are a lot of strategies for handling the events you mentioned. We all got this way because of excuses like you posted. Start now to live the life you've always wanted and to be the man you always wanted to be!..
